SUPERMAC INTRODUCES PIXELPAINT 1.1 ADDING SIGNIFICANT FEATURES TO THE LEADING
COLOR PAINT PRODUCT FOR THE MACINTOSH
BOSTON, Massachusetts (August 10, 1988) -- SuperMac Software today announced
the initial shipment of PixelPaint™ 1.1, a significant upgrade to its
easy-to-use, general purpose Apple® Macintosh™ II color paint program,
PixelPaint 1.0.
PixelPaint 1.1 lets users select from 16.8 million colors and create custom
palettes of up to 256 colors at a time. Speed enhancements have made version
1.1 much faster than 1.0, so that important special effects capabilities like
complex rotations, distortions and slants now take only a few seconds.
PostScript device printing and scrolling is also clearly faster.
Network enhancements in version 1.1 enable the locking of open PixelPaint
files on Networked systems as well as enhancing the reading and writing of
files over AppleTalk. Larger documents can be opened and saved than with
version 1.0.
"PixelPaint 1.1 is more than just a handful of improvements," said Thea
Grigsby, Product Line Manager for SuperMac. "As the leading product in the
Macintosh color market, we've utilized our extensive customer base to determine
the market's key needs."
PixelPaint 1.1 along with the recently announced PixelPaint Professional™
present a complete set of options for users who wish to produce the highest
quality color images on the Macintosh II. "The Macintosh color market is
driven by several forces," said Grigsby. "General purpose users need color
graphics to quickly create color images for desktop presentations and the
like. These users are price sensitive, but need sophisticated features. Their
needs are met by version 1.1"
"The other segment of the market, " Grigsby added, "is design professionals.
They need an extraordinary depth of features, well beyond the more casual user,
to meet their requirements. For them we have PixelPaint Professional."
PixelPaint Professional includes specialized features such as Pantone® color,
expansive color separation capabilities, PixelScan (which allow translation of
flatbed-scanned 256-bit images into 8-bit color or greyscale images), a Frisket
masking system, multiple documents, color TIFF, and a rich and varied array of
design tools. All are leading edge color design capabilities for serious
professional designers on the Macintosh.
PixelPaint 1.1 retails at $395. It is fully compatible with Apple's
MultiFinder® and System 6.0. PixelPaint Professional will be priced at $595.
It is due to ship in October.

including those who registered as Spectrum and ColorCard users with the
PixelPaint bundle. Registered PixelPaint users wanting to upgrade to
Professional my do so for $75 through November 30, 1988. After that, it will
